A Bright Summer Day

she waited for him in the pool

on a bright summer day

waiting for him to show up with a slushy in his hand

and a joke on his lips

he hoped that he could love her

if it were up to him, he would love to love

it’d be easy if he could just love her

A simple life, jolly in-laws

grocery runs and careless laughs

But as he approached the pool

the chlorine was nauseating

Suddenly he smelled the life ahead of them

Picket fences, electricity bill

Far things become close

Unknown things become known

He tried to refocus with his eyes

blue water, white flesh

He could no longer see her

he had lost her in the pool of other fleshes

she had a name once

now she was just one of them
